Gradually, Google is enhancing the Photos app by incorporating new AI features, particularly tools for video editing. The exciting part is that you don’t need the latest Google Pixel model to take advantage of these updates. This recent upgrade introduces a range of functionalities that allow you to easily edit your video clips with just a few clicks.
From improving video quality to adding effects and adjusting aspect ratios, everything is now feasible in Google Photos thanks to these new video editing tools.
But how do these tools work? How can you make the most of them? You’ll find all the answers to your questions here. So, stick around until the end of the article.
Enhance Your Videos with Ease
The first AI editing tool introduced in the updated Google Photos app is the automatic enhancement feature.
This tool analyzes the selected video clip to improve its colors, tones, and brightness. In addition, the automatic enhancement tool stabilizes the video, ensuring a smoother viewing experience. So, how can you utilize this feature?
The steps are straightforward. Once you’re in the Google Photos app, select the video you wish to edit.
After opening the video, you’ll see an “Enhance” button situated between the “Share” and “Delete” buttons.
Clicking this will display the available editing options for your video. The AI within Google Photos will instantly apply enhancements to your clip.
However, keep in mind that since this is an automatic feature, manual adjustments are not an option.
Trim Your Videos Simply and Effectively
The second editing feature added to Google Photos focuses on trimming your video recordings.
During my testing, I discovered that it allows you to easily remove the beginning and end of your video. You can trim the video by dragging the edges inward—the left edge to cut from the start and the right edge to remove footage from the end.
Accessing this option requires no complicated processes; it activates automatically once you click “Edit” after selecting your video clip.
To ensure that you’re removing the correct segments, simply hit the play button and review the playback.
Control Video Speed with Ease
The AI updates in Google Photos extend beyond merely enhancing colors and trimming videos.
Google has integrated a feature that allows you to adjust the playback speed of your videos.
The speed tool is intriguing because it gives you control over the pacing of your footage. If you feel inspired, you can easily slow down an action or speed it up as desired.
What impressed me the most is the ability to select specific segments to either speed up or slow down.
To utilize the “Speed” feature in Google Photos, first, open your video. Then, click on “Edit” and select “Speed.”
An editing window will open, allowing you to use the pink bars on the timeline to indicate which parts of the video you want to alter.
The available playback speeds range from 1/4x to 4x. You can always press play to verify if the speed adjustment meets your satisfaction.
Where Are These Video Editing Tools Available?
Since Google acquired Android about two decades ago, the new video editing tools in Google Photos are currently available only on Android devices.
However, there is another feature that I haven’t mentioned yet, which is accessible on both Android and iOS: the video presets option.
Despite Google announcing this feature last September, the video presets have not yet become available, even on the latest version of Android.
If you see a “Presets” button between “Video” and “Crop,” then the option is ready for use.
From there, all you have to do is click on it and choose the preset setting you want to apply to your video, such as basic cuts, slow motion, zoom, or tracking.
To give you an idea of what the Google Photos video presets feature can achieve, here’s a short video clip that Google has shared on its site. After watching, feel free to leave your thoughts on this new update.
