OpenAI has recently unveiled an advanced voice mode for ChatGPT on desktop versions for both Windows and Mac. This update allows for smooth and interactive conversations, significantly enhancing the user experience.

A Mobile-Like Experience

The advanced voice mode of ChatGPT, previously available on mobile devices, has finally made its way to desktop computers. Users can now engage with ChatGPT by speaking directly, creating a more natural interaction. To access this feature, users simply need to click the voice mode icon located to the right of the text input area. A new window will pop up, featuring a floating blue icon indicating that ChatGPT is listening.

Advanced Voice is rolling out to all Plus and Team users in the ChatGPT app over the course of the week.

Users can discuss any topic, and switching between the nine available voices is seamless. Just click the icon at the top right to change voices and tailor the experience to your preferences. Furthermore, the ability to interrupt the AI at any point adds a level of control over conversations and promotes a more dynamic dialogue.

Functionality and Accessibility

The advanced voice mode employs the ChatGPT-4o model, the most accessible version currently offered by OpenAI. This version allows users to interrupt the AI during its responses, a handy feature when the AI gets a bit too verbose. This keeps conversations fluid and meets user needs for concise and direct interactions.

However, this advanced feature is not free. Users must subscribe to ChatGPT Plus to utilize it, which costs $20 per month. For those on the free version, the voice mode is limited to just 10 minutes per month, allowing potential users to experience the functionality before committing to a subscription.

Expected Launch of ChatGPT Voice Mode in Europe

The advanced voice mode, already available in the United States, has recently been launched in Europe. This development paves the way for broader adoption globally. The introduction of this feature on desktop is a significant step forward, particularly with the recent release of the Windows version of the application. Until now, voice mode could only be utilized on mobile versions, and the browser version does not yet support this feature.
