Controlling New Downloads on iOS and Android

On iOS, this dual storage problem is easily resolved. Simply access the WhatsApp settings, select the Chats option, and deactivate Save to Camera Roll.

Android users can also follow a similar process. In the settings under the Chat section, you’ll find Media Visibility. Here, uncheck the option Show newly downloaded media in your phone’s gallery to prevent WhatsApp media from cluttering your gallery.

Alternatively, both iOS and Android users have the option to disable automatic media downloads. Go to Storage and Data settings, where you will find options to turn off media downloads for mobile data, Wi-Fi, and roaming.
